Thank you for your interest in participating in ColoradoGives.org! One of the fundamental eligibility requirements is that your organization must have a tax status of 501(c)(3) with a public charity status of 509(a)(1) or 509(a)(2).
Your tax and public charity status is noted on your listing in the IRS Business Master File of Exempt Organizations. The two distinct statuses are encapsulated into one numerical code on that file called the Foundation Code. You can see your current Foundation Code on the most recent IRS Business Master File of Exempt Organizations by:
- Downloading the appropriate file on this page: https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/exempt-organizations-business-master-file-extract-eo-bmf
- Searching the downloaded file for your organization’s tax ID/EIN.
- Noting the number listed in the Foundation Code column.
Foundation codes that equate to a 501(c)(3) tax status with a public charity status of 509(a)(1) or 509(a)(2) are as follows:
- 10
- 11
- 12
- 13
- 14
- 15
- 16
Any other foundation codes do not satisfy the eligibility requirement because they equate to a tax status other than 501(c)(3), no public charity status, and/or a public charity status of 509(a)(3) or 509(a)(4).
Your organization must appear on the most recent IRS Business Master File of Exempt Organizations with an acceptable foundation code in order to satisfy this eligibility requirement.
