Troubleshooting Your Business Filing/Certificate of Good Standing Issues

Cannot Find a Record in Business Database

If you searched for your organization in the business database and could not find any results, then that likely means you have not submitted a business filing yet and so do not have a valid Certificate of Good Standing. 

All organizations that participate in the ColoradoGives.org program

are required to have a valid Certificate of Good Standing.

Unable to Locate Business ID Number

We were unable to locate the business ID number you entered in the business database. There could be a few reasons for this:

  1. You misentered the ID. Try entering the ID number again.
  2. You entered a different ID (e.g., a document ID) as opposed to your business ID number. Make sure you entered the business ID number.

  1. You have not submitted a business filing yet and so do not have a valid Certificate of Good Standing. All organizations that participate in the ColoradoGives.org program are required to have a valid Certificate of Good Standing. Unverified Error

This means we are able to locate your information in the Colorado Secretary of State business database, but it is no longer valid. You will need to resolve the issue with the Business Division of the Colorado Secretary of State’s office. Below are links to the Colorado Secretary of State’s website related to the business filing:

Name Match Error

The organization name associated with the Certificate of Good Standing ID/business filing ID must correspond exactly to a name that is tied to your organization’s tax ID. Organization names associated with your tax ID are:

  • Organization name as it appears on the IRS Business Master File;
  • Organization name as it appears on the Certificate of Registration;
  • Organization legal name on Mightycause record.

If the organization’s name on your Certificate of Good Standing/business record does not correspond exactly to one of those above listed names, then you will be required to submit trade name or name change documentation to update the legal name within Mightycause.

 

It is a four part process to update your legal name within Mightycause and re-submit your Certificate of Good Standing ID/business filing ID for verification:

Part 1: File Statement of Trade Name of Reporting Entity with Colorado Secretary of State Business Division

  1. Search for your organization’s current business filing record based on your Certificate of Good Standing ID/business filing ID: https://www.coloradosos.gov/biz/FileDocSearchCriteria.do
  2. If the record presented is correct, click confirm. If it is not correct, then go back and search again.
  3. Click Statement of Trade Name of a Reporting Entity.
  4. Complete and submit the online form.

Part 2: Download Copy of Trade Name Document

  1. Once the Business Division of the Colorado Secretary has processed your trade name filing, search for your organization’s business listing based on your Certificate of Good Standing ID/business filing ID: https://www.coloradosos.gov/biz/BusinessEntityCriteriaExt.do
  2. Click on your organization’s ID number in the search result list.
  3. Click on Trade Names.
  4. Click on the ID number associated with the appropriate trade name.
  5.  Click on Filing history and documents.
  6. Click on the Document number.
  7. Download/save the pdf of the Statement of Trade Name of Reporting Entity to your computer.

Part 3: Upload Trade Name Document into Mightycause

  1. Log into your nonprofit profile on ColoradoGives.org.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Organization Info.
  4. Scroll down to the Legal Name section.
  5. In the New Legal Name field, enter the organization name as it appears on the Statement of Trade Name of Reporting Entity document.
  6. Select the document file to upload.
  7. Click Save.

Part 4: Re-enter Certificate of Good Standing ID/Business Filing ID

Once Mightycause has verified the legal name change, you will then need to re-enter your Certificate of Good Standing ID/business filing ID. To re-enter the ID:

  1. Log into your nonprofit profile on ColoradoGives.org.
  2. Along the left hand side, click Settings.
  3. Select Organization Info.
  4. Scroll down to the State Compliance section.
  5. Enter your Certificate of Good Standing ID/business filing ID into the appropriate field.
  6. Click Save.
