If you would like to track how donors are getting to your organization page or fundraising page, you can utilize a referral code. A referral code will help you understand the source site of donations.
To track the source site of donations through the platform, when sharing a URL you have the ability to add a referral code.
Adding a Referral Code
To add a referral code, first determine what you want your code to be. For example, if I want to track which donors came from a link in my July newsletter, I might use the referral code julynewsletter. You can make your referral code any set of text characters.
Once you have your referral code, simply add ?referral_code= to the end of the URL you are sharing. After =, enter the code that you have created.
For example:
- referral code - Facebook
- referral code - newsletter
**Please note, in this URL, please replace the "NPOname" with the URN for your organization page. The URN last part of your organization page link.
EXAMPLE - https://www.coloradogives.org/organization/Coloradogivesfoundation The URN in this example is Coloradogivesfoundation
If I were to use a referral code for the Colorado Gives Foundation organization page, the link would look like this:
https://www.coloradogives.org/organization/Coloradogivesfoundation?referral_code=Facebook
When donors click to donate through these urls, you will be able to see this information in your downloaded Donations Report.
To download a donations report, go to your organization's dashboard and click "Report" > "Donations." Within the download report, you will see a column that includes all of the referral codes that were used for your donations.
